About S4E

We believe that, with a little help from the experts, everybody can understand the latest science news, no matter how complex.

Our mission at S4E is to communicate recent and exciting research news to a wide readership, regardless of their background. But if you think that we’ll provide you with the typical dumbed-down report on the latest research…

… think again.

At S4E we write with the highest respect for our readers, and the profound conviction that everybody can understand complex terminology and concepts when given a fair chance. Unexplained terminology and technical concepts represent real hurdles for readers outside of a given field. However, weaseling our way out from such complexity is not a long-term solution. At S4E we face the challenge, and provide the reader with a simple, on-the-fly explanation for technical terms and concepts.

Simply mouse over the that you did not quite understand, and we’ll take it from there.

And what about the experts?!

At S4E, when we say “everybody”, we really mean everybody. It is usually a little frustrating for professional scientists to read science news in the popular press or social media, because the exaggerated oversimplification of the reports leaves out information that is crucial to make an informed judgement about the science being reported. At S4E we think that this is quite wrong too.

For that reason, we also offer our more experienced readers with an opportunity to mouse over the description of an experiment and its results, and hopefully keep them from scratching their heads in discontent.

We’ll try our best at explaining, in simpler terms, what the technical term or concept is about. We assume that our readers are smart, but haven’t come across certain terminology yet.
